Match Report 15/03/03

Ashleworth W. 6 v 0 Newent Town

In what was Newent Town's first ever game they put a bold show up against a full strength Ashleworth side. The first goal came after 9 minutes when Ashleworth broke through the Newent defence and Thomas Stubbs netted from 6 yards. Newent dug in and tackled well to keep the score down, Dominic Carter was outstanding in defence and stopped many attacks. Ashleworth scored again just before half time, Harry Cook (Captain) scoring his first goal for the club.

In the second half Newent goalkeeper Nathen Lloyd made many good saves to deny Ashleworth, but he could not prevent goals from Bradley Davis, Chase Parslow, Patrick Hopper and Ryan Dean to make it 6-0.

Newent should be proud of there effort in their first match, indeed Ashleworth were on the end of much worse results than this when they started. Newent coach Julian Ralph was pleased with his lads and can look forward to the rematch.

Ashleworth coach Neville Kemp was “over the moon” with his sides performance and was especially pleased with the improvement in their passing.
