Ashleworth
Woodpeckers v Abbeymead Rovers
Match
Report 19/01/03
Game 1
Ashleworth battled hard in the first 10 minutes
and were hard to break down, mainly thanks to good defending by Conner Parslow
and Harry Benfield. But just before half time Abbeymead scored after a spell of
pressure on the Ashleworth Goal. The score remained 1-0 untill half time.
The second half started evenly with both sides
going close in the first 5 minutes. Rory Green and Sam Wharton did well in
midfield and tackled well to help keep the score at 1-0 untill 3 minutes to go.
Abbeymead scored twice within a minute to put the game out of sight, but
Ashleworth still had chance to score twice themselves before the final
whistle. John Fish and Guy Buist
played well in midfield and broke down alot of the oppositions attacks.
Final Score 0-3 Man of the Match Sam Wharton
Game 2
Ashleworth started strongly and it wasnt long
before goals from Ryan Dean put them 2-0 up in 5 minutes. Abbeymead went close
twice soon after but were thwarted by fine goalkeeping by Ryan Sheppard,
including a brave save diving at the oncoming strikers feet. Josh Preston added
another with a cool finish and Ryan Dean completed his hattrick before halftime
to make it 4-0 at the break. In the second half Josh Preston added 2 more to
get his hattrick. Oliver Mansfield scored his first goal of the season and Ryan
Dean added 2 more to take his tally to 5 in the game to see Ashleworth end up
9-0 winners. Jack Edgington did well in defence,
and Chase Parslow, Hannah Richards and Thomas
Stubbs worked hard to give good supply balls to the strikers.
Final Score 9-0 Man of the Match Ryan Dean and Ryan Sheppard
Game 3
In what promised to be Ashleworth strongest
test yet this season, they started well and matched their opponents in every
department. Just 1 goal 2 minutes before half time split the teams giving
Abbeymead the lead. Good goalkeeping by Jack Shayle and strong tackling by
Edward Goolden and Ashley Davis made it an entertaining 1st half. In the second
half Ashleworth equallised through Bradley Davis and went close twice to taking
the lead through Hary Cook and Patrick Hopper. Abbeymead scored from a corner
with 5minutes to go and the game became really end to end attacks, but with the
very last kick off the game Ashleworth conceded another goal to flatter the end
score line.
Final Score 1-3 Man of the Match Jack Shayle
