Day Three
Little Salkeld to Stanhope
After a relatively easy day yesterday, this was the day for climbs.
First up was Hartside Pass. There are no pictures of us at the top but we were there (only because there is no way to avoid it). At 1908 feet, 6° C, and lashing rain, no-one seems to fancy posing for a picture.
Then a mad descent to the warm embrace of the pub in Garrigill. the locals understand the June weather - they had two log fires blazing in the bar!
Like so many places, our Garrigill stop was followed by a very steep climb, and then another after Nenthead to the highest point of the route. Simon didn't really need a push . . .
But we were pleased to see the sign for Northumberland.
And even more happy to get to Allenheads just before the cafe closed for the day!
Highlight of the Day:
Drinking in Garrigill as the rain came down - just getting through all the climbs
Tip of the Day:
When you have climbs ahead, don't let your least observant member lead the group.
Or you may sail past signs and add extra miles from a detour.
