Day One

Gloucester to Whitehaven by car, then off @ 4pm.

The rest of England was preparing to watch England play Switzerland in Euro 2004, but not us, oh no.
We caught thelast three minutes at a pub in Lorton.

Ready to roll in Whitehaven (note the optimistic shorts, never to appear again)

A quick detour to the Kirkstile Inn, near Crummock Water. They aren't showing the footy . . .

Looking over Bassenthwaite. Fluorescent rims are cool, especially when you're still cycling after nine.

Highlight of the Day:
The drop from the Whinlatter Pass, at speed in the twilight.

Tip of the Day:
A laden bike going downhill is no match for a large tractor coming uphill. Beware of blind bends!
